I haven't seen too much on Wincustomize about netbooks (there was one DX theme that said it was adjusted for netbooks) but it seems to me this is a perfect niche for DesktopX to work its magic.

I recently purchased a netbook for my son and I'm trying to customize it before I give it to him. Its pretty snappy but XP doesn't lend itself well to using a small screen.  Especially where the primary uses would be navigating the net, viewing pictures, blogging, things like that.

ObjectDock provides one solution for helping one use a netbook, but I think if someone were to dedicate time to developing netbook exclusive DX themes and promoted them as such, it could be a far useful alternative.

I'm not a programmer, but I should think DX could replicate UI choices similar to Ubuntus Netbook Remix, Jolicloud or Moblin, which are all Linux based choices for netbook UI.  Or perhaps improve on those types of designs.

I suppose eventually Win7 will be the OS of choice on netbooks instead of XP, but while Win7 probably is a little better in some regards than XP for netbooks, I think DX could play a big role here.

So how about it Stardock?  Here is a perfect opportunity to promote the much hyped program that very few seem to want to use.

Although I can understand much of what you wrote, I can't agree with that...Ever since I found PDJ's skins...(now RedneckDude), sViz, Murex, Martin, gef, philmar, bilbo, RomanDA....I've been using DX almost all the time.

They were there putting together really great stuff. If people choose not to use it or take advantage of its power, what can one do? That's not DX's fault. More likely most don't know or care to work with it.

Seems like DX resolution independent skins should work on Netbooks. Don't know if things would be legible...screen size

determines a lot.

Ubuntus Netbook Remix
Is awesome and the support guys and I were talking about just that the other day.  I'd love to see what the community could come up with.

I only meant that I read on here every once in awhile that DX isn't meeting the expections.  There are people using it, but it doesn't appear to be as mainstream as Stardock would like it to be.

I have looked at a few of the DX theme and may try some on here, but most seem not to include much in the way of navigation tools similar to the products I mentioned.  They are mostly widgets for weather, media players, rss feeds and cpu monitoring.

I'm not doubting there are some that fit the requirements but I just thought this was an opportunity to expand on DX and get a foot hold into the netbook area.

I'm going to try a couple DX skins that are resolution independent and see how they do.  Will report back on it (unless someone beats me to it lol)

If I remember correctly, Zubaz was hunting for suggestions for the new DX version....LINK

Sorry Dr, admittedly I haven't chosen to use DX myself so probably bypassed that post at the time it was made.

I have tried Stealth OS Mini DX and that is very close to what I was talking about it.  Overall nice interface. Hotkey for making it appear/disappear.  I also tried XP Dark Ultimate.  While it was also good as well, not as easy to adjust to needs as the Stealth one.

Perhaps even Objectdock is a better way to go.  In the end I'm not sure if he will want to use either one.  He isn't into customizing as much as I am.

Maybe.... it is easier to deal with, if one has no knowledge about customization...but the young learn so quickly it's hard to know.

Why not let him try out your DX and OD and see which he likes...if either, at all.
